Retail Assistant

Key Responsibilities

1. Greet customers and provide friendly and professional customer service.

2. Assist customers in selecting gelato flavours, desserts, beverages and other products.

3. Provide information about products, flavours, ingredients, prices and available options.

4. Recommend products according to customer preferences.

5. Take customer orders and accurately operate the point-of-sale (POS) system.

6. Process cash, EFTPOS, credit/debit card and other approved payments.

7. Prepare and serve gelato, desserts and café products in accordance with business procedures.

8. Prepare and package takeaway orders.

9. Maintain attractive and well-presented gelato, food and retail displays.

10. Restock gelato, products, packaging and other supplies as required.

11. Receive, check, store and replenish stock.

12. Assist with stocktakes and maintain appropriate stock records.

13. Rotate stock and follow appropriate storage procedures.

14. Maintain clean, tidy and hygienic customer service and retail areas.

Clean counters, tables, display areas, equipment and other customer-facing areas.

15. Respond professionally to customer enquiries and feedback and refer complex complaints to the supervisor or manager.

16. Assist with promotional activities and communicate current products and promotions to customers.

17. Follow food safety, hygiene, health and safety and company procedures.

18. Assist other team members with general retail and café duties when required.

19. Complete opening and closing duties when rostered.

Haus of Gelato Café is looking for three reliable and customer-focused Retail Sales Assistants to join our team in Auckland.
The successful applicants will work in our gelato café and retail environment, providing friendly customer service, assisting customers with product selection, processing sales, preparing and serving gelato and café products, maintaining product displays and ensuring the shop is clean, organised and presented to a high standard.

1. At least 2 years of relevant work experience in retail, hospitality, café, food service or a closely related customer-facing role; OR a relevant NZQCF Level 4 or higher qualification where applicable.

2. Good customer service and communication skills.

3. Experience using POS systems and handling customer payments.

4. The ability to work accurately and efficiently in a busy customer-facing environment.

5. Good attention to detail and product presentation skills.

6. The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

7. A reliable, positive and professional approach to work.

8. The ability to follow food safety, hygiene, health and safety and workplace procedures.

9. Flexibility to work rostered shifts, including weekends, evenings and public holidays where required.
