Support Worker
Te Kōhanga Reo o Ōpopoti is looking for enthusiastic, caring and reliable Kairīwhi to join our pool of relievers.
As a Kairīwhi, you will play an important role in supporting our tamariki, whānau and kaimahi and helping maintain a safe, nurturing and enriching learning environment grounded in te ao Māori and te kaupapa o Te Kōhanga Reo.
This is a casual, on-call position, with opportunities to work when staff cover is required, generally between Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3.30pm.
As a Kairīwhi, your day may include:
* Supporting the care, learning and wellbeing of our tamariki aged 0–5 years
* Participating in daily routines, activities and learning experiences
* Supporting tamariki to develop their reo Māori, tikanga and confidence
* Helping create a warm, safe and inclusive environment for tamariki
* Supporting kaiako with planned activities and experiences
* Taking part in waiata, karakia, pūrākau, mihimihi and other kaupapa Māori activities
* Supporting tamariki during kai, sleep/rest times and transitions throughout the day
* Maintaining a clean, organised and safe learning environment
* Building positive and respectful relationships with tamariki, whānau and kaimahi
* Cleaning and maintaining the kōhanga environment, including learning spaces, bathrooms, kitchen areas and general cleaning duties
* Following the policies, procedures and kaupapa of Te Kōhanga Reo
* Being willing to learn, contribute and support the wider kōhanga team
No experience needed — full training provided.
The successful applicant will ideally have the following:
* Intermediate to advanced proficiency in te reo Māori me ngā tikanga
* Enthusiasm and a strong desire to nurture, protect and make a difference to mokopuna in their early years while building strong links with their whānau
* A willingness to live and learn about the history and kaupapa o Te Kōhanga Reo o Opopoti
* Able to work within a whānau and team environment, and build good relationships with mokopuna, whānau and kaimahi
* Flexibility to work at short notice
* Pass Police Vetting and Safety Check for all Kaimahi/Contractors of Te Kōhanga Reo
* Excellent communication, planning and organisation skills
* Must be punctual and reliable
